Base Morph
A Base Morph is the original morph that all projects fall back to. Some base morphs do have sub categories that over time have stepped out into the light and become a base onto their own. i.e., Emerine from Tangerine.

Hobby terms

Holdback Release: An animal that you considered breeding and decided to sell at a later time.

Breeder Release: A proven breeder animal that you are selling to another.

Medium: Substrate

Hide: A closed off area with a small opening for your animals to go to for comfort, sleep or safety.

Substrate: the flooring you use for the animals hide, tub or terrarium.

Temperature Sex: an attempt at using temperature to pre-determine sex/gender of a hatchling. Mother nature ultimately decides.

No known hets: 1. the animal has not been tested for any hets. 2. the line has thrown zero hets in many generations but there were hets in the past.

No hets: Animals that come from breeders that are proven to have zero recessive genes. This phrase IS a guarantee and should not be used lightly.

Cross: An animal that is the result of at least one pure line bred animal paired to another.

Het: heterozygous; carrying one recessive gene from a parent.

Handle: The name by which your hobby goes by.

Pet Only: an animal that is deemed unworthy of being considered a breeder animal. Reasons could be (sale price, defects, neurological disorders, temperament, etc.

Pure: An animal that stems from a project or combo morph that is line bred for the exact same results with minimal outcrossing.

Filial Breeding is something that you will talk about, see and participate with in the leopard gecko hobby or community. In order to successfully stabilize a morph someday you’ll want to reach out to other breeders and discuss the ‘how to’s’ of the selective filial breeding.
